“And when the wine is sent to far-off places, it encounters other people, other cultures, other histories and other wines. The bottle of wine on a table in Hong Kong, Dublin, Charlotte or Malindi settles into the history of that distant place which the wine has brought closer, the cultures intertwine and the magic is once again restored, every day, always”.
The year 2018 marks, contemporaneously, an arrival point and a point of decisive change and it is possible to say that the dreams which have been pursued with tenacity for twenty years have taken on concrete form. Dreams which could be synthesized as the triumph of Cerasuolo di Vittoria. Together with Carlo Casavecchia, the winemaker from Piedmont capable of making the notes of this native Sicilian grape variety resound. Finally, after five years of aging in the cellars, we have presented the first vintage of Iri in In, the Cerasuolo di Vittoria Cru DOCG, the expression of one sole vineyard, a wine from the Bidini Soprano high plateau. A bottle which confirms our convictions, mine and from the hands of Casavecchia, an offering which demonstrates that Cerasuolo ca give a wine of lengthy aging. And, what is more: all of the 200 acres (80 hectares) of vineyards, property of the Jacono family for six generations, are definitively certified as biological. Characterized by seven soil types of a different nature and structure, they extend all around the “palmento alla dispensa”, the Jacono’s cement fermentation structure, architect tonic testimony of my family, one with expert knowledge and promotional talent for Frappato and for Cerasuolo di Vittoria.
Seven different zones which offer a unique character and identity of the wine, unmistakable in their totally pure expression, one sought with constant integrity. A constant action aimed at demonstrating the value of the territory with the choice of ecological responsibility as well. All of our decisions are ecologically oriented from production to the reception of guests in our home, “The House of Pairing”, where we seek the proper pairing of our wines with tradition an d innovation. Today, we able to state that Valle dell’Acate is a mature child which has been formed by respect for its site, is driven by curiosity and by an impetus towards new markets: first in the United States, opened by me in 1999, and then Canada, Japan, China, and Russia. Through the cultivation of the finest native grape varieties, the employment of technologically advanced winemaking plants, and the experience acquired by a solid tradition, Valle dell’Acate produces only warm and elegant expressions of this DOCG territory: Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classico and the Cerasuolo di Vittoria Cru Iri da Iri, the DOC VITTORIA il Frappato, the DOC SICILIA Bidis-Chardonnay, Zagra-Grillo, and the Moro-Nero d’Avola.
