I love music, I listen to it whenever I can, at any and all hours of the day.
I have had the good fortune to grow up in a family which taught me to know it, to understand it, and to appreciate it. My father, in our home in Vittoria, conserves and enlarges with meticulous and fully involved care a collection of instrument in “his” music room. For this reason it was natural for me to involve myself in Milano Musica which, for 25 years, has given Milan, the city of my second home,
a program which probes with great intelligence the language of contemporary music.
INTONING THE LIGHT is the theme which, this year, through the presentation of French composer Gérard Grisey and some of his new pieces, played for the very first time, wishes to draw attention to its innovative musical thought.
One which subverts the paradigms of the structuralist vanguard through an exploration of the intrinsic nature of sounds, a sort of immersion in an unknown world made of infinite sonic perceptions which then flow together to form a fully finished sound.
Valle dell’Acate will supplement three concerts on the 6th, 7th, and 14th of November with a tasting of wines which accompany perfectly the character and the sounds of a musician whose dream is to intercept the deep pulsations which link the forms of nature to the forms of art.
I immediately, and again through a collaboration with Milano Music, gave my support to the Music Fund project and in this way added Valle dell’Acate’s contribution of solidarity to the transport of musical instruments to Mozambique. I am fascinated by the subtle thread which joins together music and the sea in a web of sounds, pauses, and silence.
I have also imagined these instruments as they live a second life, travelling on a boat which gradually makes its way through various places and cultures, reaching slowly, day by day, its goal and destination. In the same way, the bottle of wine is the fruit of a slow and ambitious project which, departing from the soil and vineyard, grows, producing the grapes which are then transformed into the wine which goes into the bottle. A bottle which is also a messenger which recounts, in its turn, a story, the history of a place. A bottle which voyages along various and differing routes, encountering a series of places and cultures and in this voyage gets to know them. My love for music led Valle dell’Acate to the Music Fund. And now Music Fund brings me to the sea: music, the sea, and wine are my true loves, capable as they are of soothing my soul and countering a life which is always in motion. They are symbols of the slowness and patience which are necessary
to bring to its conclusion an important project.
The maximum expression of the territory in which I operate is the Cerasuolo di Vittoria Docg,
the wine which is a distinguished marriage between the elegant Nero d’Avola and the fragrant Frappato grapes.
It is certainly a wine which goes wonderfully well with the cuisine of distant countries as well (an excellent match with spicy dishes) and embodies a modern way of drinking, fresher, less concentrated, one in which a wine should go hand in hand with the plates without ever dominating them.
When I say wine, I am also thinking about food, about conviviality and, immediately after, culture. I am thinking about a glass of Cerasuolo di Vittoria which brings together persons who, sitting together at a table, exchange ideas and opinions and tell stories between one glass of wine and the next, creating invisible ties which join them together. Wine carries in itself a message of culture, a message which recounts the history of a place and brings back a time before that precise bottle existed. The bottle is an intermediary, a bond which brings together different cultures, creates an encounter between them, and allows them to know one another and receive, mutually, knowledge and understanding. This is the way I interpret my role as Brand Ambassador to Italy and to the world of Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG and of the territory of the province of Ragusa.
I have a dream.
A perfect agricultural estate.
We are moving forward. The road ahead is, as always and fortunately, a long one. This allows us to continue to think about what is best for us. And for those who will come after us.
Today we are a professional and experienced squad.
Our patrimony, our bond to our work come from six generations of agricultural entrepreneurship in a world, the world of wine, which has undergone a radical transformation, a true revolution. Had we started from scratch, we would have had some immediate advantages, but we would have lost a true treasure of knowledge, of accumulated experience.
We are now composing a complex puzzle. I can say that many pieces of the puzzle have been put together, but other new ones are still on the table and they are all a challenge.
A true test.
The point of departure for rethinking a contemporary wine estate was the soil.
It was the soil which gave us the “7 soils for 7 wines” project, fruit of 50 years of experimentation on the ground, first empirical, then analytical, which showed us the right places, those which gave character to the vines, giving the wine a unique expressivity, that which brings out all of its individuality and personality.
This year put a little extra magic in your Christmas with Il Moro Limited Edition 2008
from Valle dell’Acate
A pure, deep garnet red Nero d’Avola, Il Moro Limited Edition is intense, rich and enveloping:
the perfect holiday gift for Christmas 2015
Valle dell’Acate has decided to pay homage to its Il Moro Limited Edition 2008 wine, offering it in a Christmas gift package for the 2015 holiday season: the perfect gift for anyone who loves elegant, silky wines with intense aromas.
A deep garnet red, the wine is characterized by notes of mature prune and caramelized cherries, with a hint of spices, vanilla and chocolate. The flavor is full-bodied, silky, warm and elegant. Il Moro Limited Edition was born of Valle dell’Acate’s ongoing desire to experiment and push the boundaries of its own wine production. The 2008 harvest was particularly select and concentrated, inspiring the winemakers to leave the grapes on the vine following their physiological maturation in order to let them wither and dehydrate slightly.
The resulting wine – extremely rich, intense and enveloping – was aged in small French barrels for approximately one year before continuing its aging in glass, for a total production of no more than 4,000 bottles.
Il Moro Limited Edition is a perfect accompaniment for red meats, roasts, meat stews, game meats and aged cheeses, and particularly recommended as a companion wine for 13-month Ragusano DOP cheese, Nebrodi cheese and pecorino cheeses. The wine makes a perfect pairing for an elegant, refined and flavorful Christmas dinner.
Il Moro Limited Edition is part of the project “7 TERRE PER 7 VINI” (7 LANDS FOR 7 WINES), the result of 50 years of experimentation in the field and the cantina’s pride and joy: each of the 7 different wines that make up the most prestigious offerings from Valle dell’Acate have been painstakingly matched with the perfect terrain for the grapes, exerting a strong influence over the fruit’s composition and imbuing the final product with a special, unique flavor; a result of the winemakers’ conviction that the choice of “terroir” is an important added value for production.
Il Moro Limited Edition was born of Terra Nera (Black Earth), terrain where soil color is so dark as to become almost black, with a medium soil density tending toward compact, and a notable presence of small, dark stones.
As with all the company’s wines, Il Moro Limited Edition was born of vines that fully respect sustainability protocols and are already being reconverted to obtain biological ICEA certification. The company also adheres to the VIVA sustainable wine project.
