Visits to the cellars



Valle dell’Acate opens the doors to its historic cellars, spaces which tell the tale of six generations of agricultural entrepreneurship. The visit will permit wine lovers to learn the winemaker’s art in an enchanting atmosphere, one suffused with history, tradition, and culture.
This multi-sensorial voyage “7 terre per 7 vini” (“7 soils for 7 wines”) begins in the estate’s vineyards, distinguished by their sub-division into specific parcels in order to allow the specific character of each individual plot to be fully brought out. The visit continues in the former “Palmento”, now the “wine museum”, once the structure which housed, indeed rested upon, cement fermenting tanks. Here time has been stopped in its tracks. The fascinating stone architecture, the tools and equipment, and the organization of the interior spaces brings backs the atmosphere of the rural world in which wine was once made: the ample structure houses the modern 
Ditta E. Negro presses which have substituted the “cianca”, a manual screw press for squeezing the last drops of juice from the skins; here, once upon a time, men, women, and children trod the grapes while singing and chanting rimes. The large openings, which once served for introducing the harvested crop onto the chutes which led into the spaces below now open ample patches of light onto the penumbral interior. And finally, still entirely preserved, the channels along which the must, utilizing solely the force of gravity, flowed into the “Dispensa”, the larder, below.
It is the larder itself which hosts the guided tastings of the seven Valle dell’Acate wines, just as there are seven different soil types which house the biologically-cultivated estate vineyards.
Seven different realities which confer uniqueness and identity to the wines, unmistakable in the purity of the expressiveness, one sought after through constant research: the D.O.C.G. (controlled and guaranteed appellation) Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classico and the Cerasuolo di Vittoria Iri da Iri, the D.O.C. (controlled appellation) Vittoria Il Frappato and Tanè-Nero d’Avola, the D.O.C Sicilia Bidis- Chardonnay, Zagra-Grillo, and Il Moro-Nero d’Avola. Typical dishes of Sicilian cuisine, prepared with organic ingredients grown directly on the estate, are offered to accompany the wines.

Vineyard trekking

Experience the true essence of the Dirillo River Valley’s terroir, immersed in the green sea of the vineyards that ornament the splendid Acate Valley Estate, while walking among the vineyards and breathing in the magical atmosphere of the places where, thanks to the skilful work of man, bunches of grapes grow that are destined to become wine. You will be greeted by a Sommelier/trekker who will recount the history of the Jacono family and take you on a visit to the old cooperage and the late 19th century millstone and then make a light trek of about 3 km. A guided tasting of three wines accompanied by homemade bread, olives and “ciappe” (dried tomatoes) will take place on a charming hillock upon your return.
A unique experience for everyone!

Four tasting proposals with Sicilian gastronomical specialties:


Proposal A

Tasting of 3 VALLE DELL’ACATE wines, along with olives, dried tomatoes (“ciappe di pomodoro”), and home-baked, naturally leavened bread.
Price: 18 euro per person
It is possible to supplement the tasting with the purchase of wines served by the glass or with a bottle at the cost of our price list.


Proposal B

Tasting of 4 VALLE DELL’ACATE wines along with flavored rice balls (“arancini”) and dried tomatoes (“ciappe di pomodoro”), Ragusa DOP cheese (a controlled appellation product), olives, and home-baked, naturally leavened bread.
Price: 30 euro per person
It is possible to supplement the tasting with the purchase of wines served by the glass or with a bottle at the cost of our price list.


Proposal C

Tasting of 4 VALLE DELL’ACATE wines along with a typical meal of local province of Ragusa dishes. A welcoming dishes of delicacies from the territory, a first course of traditional local pasta, a plate of Sicilian-style vegetables, seasonal fruit, and a typical Sicilian dessert, mineral water, and coffee.
Price: 45 euro per person (for groups of at least ten persons)
It is possible to supplement the tasting with the purchase of wines served by the glass or with a bottle at the cost of our price list.

For your information: payment for the number of persons indicated in the reservation will be requested on the day of the Wine Tasting Tour even if the number of persons actually present is smaller. A down payment of 50% will be requested when the reservation is made.

All of the products are organic and grown on the estate.

A reservation is obligatory for all of these proposals, and it must be sent either by fax to 0932/1865149 or by an e-mail to visite@valledellacate.it at least a week before the date of the tasting.

On request, a transfer service is available.

 The transfer service is active from the following locations:

– Comiso: 60 euros
– Ragusa: 80 euros
– Marina di Ragusa: 90 euros
– Modica: 90 euros
– Scicli: 90 euros

The quotes include the transfer of maximum 4 people.
For a larger number of passengers, up to a maximum of 8 people, a surcharge of 50 euros per transfer is required.
The prices shown are inclusive of VAT, including the round trip and the waiting time during the tasting.
